An audit that changed the brief

I audited more than 75 PDP components on mobile and desktop using Contentsquare, and benchmarked PDPs from On, Sonos, Net-a-Porter and others.

The audit changed the brief: a full redesign, starting with Apparel, kicked off with a reverse-brief workshop.

“I identify customer obstacles using data and insights, develop prototypes, and refine them through engineering testing and iteration.”

My approach

Align the team, then prototype and test in two rounds

I ran a reverse-brief workshop with design, e-commerce and content.
I wireframed in Figma, then built interactive prototypes in Framer.
I tested twice: moderated for the why, unmoderated in Maze for scale.

Exploration

Round 1

The first structured concept introduced a calmer, clearer sequence. Key product info above the fold. Clutter removed. The relationship between image, price, size, stock, and reviews finally made sense. This version went straight into moderated testing.

Round 1 UT: moderated testing, 8 participants via Askable

Rapid iterations across layout, information grouping, and content sequencing. Gallery structures, colour logic, review placement, size visibility. Many prototypes were adjusted live as new signals emerged from testing. I didn’t design in isolation. I designed in conversation with data.

Key decisions

Scope the system, not the screen

I reframed the brief around the whole page, with e-commerce and content in from week one.

Test twice, on purpose

Round one got the design “70% there”; round two confirmed the fixes held at scale.

Let the data set the hierarchy

Rage-clicks, hidden stock and buried reviews decided what moved up the page.

Test for accessibility

I included blind and low-vision participants, a step most PDP redesigns skip.
